The first meeting of the Gig Council was held in New Delhi on 12 th December 2024 under the Chatham House Rule.

The meeting commenced with a clear definition of the council’s purpose, followed by discussions on key issues such as platform regulation, social security, and policy reforms aimed at fostering equitable economic growth. Members exchanged ideas on how PAFI and its members could play a more active role in addressing challenges within the gig economy sector.

The conversation progressed with a presentation by the distinguished guest speaker, Ms. Bornali Bhandari, Professor at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), who shared valuable insights on the gig economy.

Members then reviewed a work plan that included stakeholder mapping to identify key policy leads in both central and state governments, fostering partnerships to co-create effective policy frameworks. The participants reached a consensus on developing a unified agenda that highlights the role of member companies across various dimensions of the gig economy and determined the next steps for advancing the council’s initiatives.
