Second meeting of PAFI Healthcare Council

PAFI’s Healthcare Council convened under the PAFI Dialogue Rule in New Delhi on 12 December 2024. The session began with welcome remarks from the chairperson Ishteyaque Amjad, Past President & Managing Committee Member, PAFI, who reviewed the council’s progress and set the agenda.

Minakshi Sarma Dabas, Partner, Corporate Law Group, presented to the group on ‘Recent Developments in the Nutraceutical Sector’, highlighting the industry’s growth potential, regulatory challenges, and the need for global alignment. She provided insights into the dual governance structure and ambiguities in product classifications.

T. S. Vishwanath, Founding Member, Past-President and Director General, PAFI , presented on ‘Challenges in Trade with the United States in a Trump Administration’. He delved into trade complexities and opportunities for collaboration in pharmaceuticals and healthcare technologies between India and the U.S.

The members discussed the need for policy reforms, proactive engagement with government bodies, and strategic advocacy in the healthcare sector. As next steps members of the council decided that:

  • The council would strengthen its engagement with key stakeholders in the Indian government and beyond to understand and address emerging challenges and leverage potential opportunities in trade with the United States.
  • The council would work toward drafting a high-quality white paper to address pressing issues in the healthcare sector with the assistance of members and through consultations with industry, regulators and the government.
  • The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Vinita Sethi, Immediate Past President, PAFI and SVP & Chief Public Affairs, Apollo Hospitals Group, urging members to focus on long-term strategic goals of the council and impactful initiatives.
